Walter Norris

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Walter H. Norris, who left us on August 29, 2025. Born on June 16, 1961, in Austin, Texas, to the union of Patricia Black-Norris and Edgar Walter Norris, Jr., Walter was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, whose love for his family was unmatched. 

From the very beginning, Walter was a protector and guide — first as a big brother, then as a devoted son and husband, and later as a father and grandfather. He lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a constant commitment to the people who meant the most to him. His greatest joy came from his family, and he poured his heart into them every day. Walter was a proud graduate of Johnston High School in Austin, TX, and served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces, where he built lasting bonds with those who served alongside him. But it was his role as a husband to Annie Mae that brought him the greatest happiness. The two were married on September 19, 1997, and together, they raised Anntwanette and Cresia, affectionately calling him “Pops, ” creating a home full of love and laughter. 

Those who knew Walter would say he was the epitome of kindness and quiet strength. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved, whether with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a simple smile. His family and friends often affectionately called him the "Golden Child" because he was cherished and held in very high regard. He was truly a favorite among all who crossed his path, always there to offer support, encouragement, or just a laugh when it was needed most. 

An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Walter ' s passion for his team was well known, and he brought that same enthusiasm to everything he loved. His energy, his laughter, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know him. 

Walter’s legacy is built on love, integrity, and a deep commitment to his family. While he may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the memories and hearts of everyone he touched. His love for his family, his loyalty to his friends, and his kindness toward strangers will never be forgotten. 

Walter is preceded in death by his father, Edgar Walter Norris Jr., his grandmothers, Margaret Norris, Lillie B. Black, and Celestine Gray (Big Penny), and his niece, Shyriece Norris. 

He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Norris, mother, Patricia Miller, his siblings: Derrick L. Norris, Roslyn L. Norris, Tracy Norris-Radcliff, and Hillary Norris-Duncan (Darrell), his children: Antwain T. Spencer and Andre T. Norris (Mother - Shelia Norris), Anntwanette Brooks, and Cresia Oliver. He will also be deeply missed by his nephews: Jordan Nicoles, Tarlyn (TJ) Scott, and Keyshaun Norris, his niece, Shanieka Norris, his grandchildren: Antwain T. Spencer Jr., Jaden and Jeremiah Norris, Andrea Norris, and Yazmyne and Laila Cumby, as well as his aunts: Nanetta Scott and Rose Davis, and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts. 

As we bid farewell to Walter, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace. Rest in peace, Walter. You will always be missed, but never forgotten
