Ruth Brockman

July 23, 1945 — March 2, 2026

Ruth Vernell Brockman passed away on March 2, 2026, after a long battle with Dementia.

She was born to Fritz Brockman and Martha Goerlitz Brockman on June 23, 1945. Ruth attended Lanier High School and graduated from Southwest Texas with a degree in Sociology. Ruth worked at the Travis County Tax Office while she was obtaining her teaching certificate and then began her teaching career in Del Valle and Taylor. She taught Special Ed at the high school level and loved her career and students greatly.

When Ruth was growing up in Austin, the Brockman’s built and owned a grocery store on Burnet Road where a Jack in the Box now stands. Ruth worked at the store while she attended high school. The street behind the store bears the Brockman name. They stayed in the grocery business for about seventeen years. Ruth told so many sweet stories about her mom and Dad. Can you believe, “they never fussed”? The family laughed, worked and had fun together.

Ruth grew up in the Lutheran Faith her whole life. Attending Redeemer Lutheran school and church, later she moved to Taylor and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lenora Brockman, and the love of her life Tommy McDaniel. They were together for over 30 years. They enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing pool and the Dallas Cowboys. She was also preceded in death by her dogs, who brought her great joy and companionship, Winston, Kaiser, and Schindler.

She is survived by her daughter Jade Brockman, son Slade Brockman “6ft 2 eyes of blue”, granddaughters Channing Beas (Alex) and Arden Garrett and great granddaughter River Funderburke, whom she dearly loved and enjoyed.

The family would like to extend its most sincere gratitude to University Village Memory Care, in Round Rock, Trinity Lutheran Church and all her cherished friends over the years.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, with the funeral immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at SPJST in Taylor.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church 3505 N. Main Street, Taylor TX 76574, or a charity of your choice.
