After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Phillip (Flip) Lopez Sr. age 79, entered eternal rest at his home on Wednesday, January 28th 2026. He was born on March 16th, 1946, to Mike and Rita Lopez in Thorndale, Tx.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Mike and Rita Lopez; his sister Cruz Rivera; and grandson Nicholas Costilla.
He is survived by his partner Linda Rodriguez, 3 children: Phillip Lopez Jr, (Paty), Yolanda Lopez (Gibby), Jaime Lopez (Tonia), and his 2 bonus daughters, Kimberly Arredondo (Gabriel), Stephanie Robles (Daniel). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. His family grew over the years to include many grandchildren through his devoted companion, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He also survived by his siblings, Steve Lopez, Brig Lopez (Tina), Andrew Lopez, and Isabel Richardson (Ronnie).
Though he spent the last two years battling cancer, he will be remembered for his quick wit and humorous replies, which stayed with him until the end.
At the age of 52, he retired from Alcoa after 33 years as a supervisor. Known for his incredible work ethic, he earned the respect of those around him for his leadership and integrity. Those who worked alongside him knew they could always count on him. He valued hard work, fairness, and never cutting corners.
He balanced a serious and determined nature with an unforgettable sense of humor. He loved making jokes, giving advice, and encouraging those around him. His softer side especially came out with the younger generations—his grandchildren and great-grandchildren—who brought out his warmth and playfulness.
He loved dancing and fishing, playing pool and cards, and never passed up a competitive game of horseshoes, washers, or dominoes. With his competitive spirit, games were never boring—he liked to win and made sure everyone knew it.
Phillip Sr. leaves behind a legacy of resilience, laughter, wisdom, love and always a good time. His life story is one of courage, family, and perseverance, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
