Peggy Jean Walther Ging, 81, of Thrall went to meet Jesus on October 12, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born in Taylor on January 23, 1940, the daughter of Albertina Lange Walther and Henry A. Walther.
Peggy grew up on the family farm in the New Bern area with eight siblings. She was baptized at New Bern Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Thrall. She graduated from Thrall High School where she met and married the love of her life, Gilbert Ging on August 23, 1958. They had 47 wonderful years together and were blessed with three children.
Peggy had several jobs throughout her lifetime, including: working for the IRS, Taylor ISD, and The Taylor Chamber of Commerce. However, anyone who knew her, knew her most important job was being a loving mother and wife working alongside her husband on the farm. After a long day at work and on the weekends, you would find Peggy hauling water, seed, cotton, parts, grain and homemade meals out to the field.
Peggy loved the Lord and it was important to her to pass on her beliefs in faith, prayer, and worship to her children and grandchildren which she did through music, stories, and prayer. She was a prayer warrior who prayed for hours every day. She also believed in serving her community which she modeled by being a Sunday school teacher, an active member of the PTO, a 4/H leader, a youth fellowship sponsor, and serving on the church council. She was also a member of the St John’s Ruth Circle, the Woman’s Study Club, and the New Century Club.
Peggy was happiest when all her family were gathered at her home. She also enjoyed shopping, shelling on the beach, camping with family and friends, and later in life, lunching with her many wonderful, dear friends. She was a talented seamstress and gardener, but was best known for her cooking and baking skills. She knew everyone’s favorite dish or dessert and would have it ready and waiting for whoever was visiting. Wherever she went, it was always with a delicious dish in hand! Despite her illness, she continued her love of baking until the very end. She was an amazing mother and awesome Nanny who will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; a sister, Elvira; brothers, Albert, Max and Harold; sister-in-law, Dorothy; and brothers-in-law, Ray Middaugh and Alvin Hardi.
Survivors include her daughters; Ginger Gross and husband Brian, Jeanie Alderete and husband Ismael; son, Keith Ging and wife Patricia; grandchildren, Brianna Martindale and husband Scott, Keegan Gross and wife Ashley, Braden Gross and wife Grace, Abby and Elizabeth Alderete, Nathan, Luke and Joshua Ging; great-grandchildren, Eli, Ethan, Anna Claire, and Tula Martindale, Dalton and Cory Gross, and Kinsley Gross; sisters, Margie Middaugh, Rose Lee Hardi; brother Wilbert and wife Mae; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nell Walther, LaVerda Walther, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
