Linney Lou Margolius Age 78 of Temple Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025. She was born on February 10, 1948, in Silver City, New Mexico. She is the daughter of Garland O. Burchfield and Carrie Marie (Netherton) Burchfield.
Linney gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She was active in church and took time to help many. Her niece, Ronda, remembers Linney helping her memorize Psalms 100 when Ronda was 6 years old.
Throughout her life, Linney was active in all branches of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. (The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is a fraternal organization with a long history, dating back to the 18th century in England, and established in the United States in 1819. It's a non-political and non-sectarian group focused on promoting principles of Friendship, Love, and Truth. Odd Fellowship emphasizes community service, with lodges often engaging in activities like visiting the sick, helping those in distress, and supporting local charities.) When Linney was twelve, she joined the girls' youth branch of the Order. At the age of eighteen, she joined the Rebekah Lodge, the women’s branch of the Order. When the Order opened the Odd Fellows to women, she joined that branch. Linney was active in all local lodges, rising to the top leadership positions. Continuing her activities, she was elected president of the Rebekah Assembly of New Mexico in 2007. She and her husband, Hunter Margolius, served together as Rebekah Assembly President and Grand Master, respectively.
Linney married Charles Hunter Margolius in 1974. They enjoyed a happy marriage for 37 years. They enjoyed making jewelry, doing leather work together, and serving others. In Hunter's later days, he was sick, and Linney took joy in caring for him.
After her husband died in 2011, Linney stayed in Las Cruces and continued to be active in the Odd Fellows despite her failing health.
In 2017, Linney’s health prevented her from caring for herself. So she chose to move into the nursing home to be roommates with her sister, Barbara. Although Linney was bedridden, she was very cognitively present, caring and advocating for Barbara up until she passed in 2021. After Barbara passed, Linney continued to befriend and advocate for her roommates.
Linney was known by all as a very happy individual who was sweetly undemanding of others. She worked hard to build community, even in the nursing home. She made friends easily and knew all the workers by name. She enjoyed sitting out in the front at the nursing home and being friendly with the staff. She was an endearing soul who was treasured by those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Margolius, stepdaughter Sheryl Sandford, sister Barbara Buttelmann, and brother Jim Burchifeld.
To all those she left behind, she will be missed greatly.
“The memory of the righteous is a blessing.” Proverbs 10:7
