Johnnie James Simcik, 82, of Granger, Texas, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026. He was born on May 25, 1943 in Taylor, Texas to Lad and Mary (Polasek) Simcik.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, wife Kathy (Johle) Simcik. He is survived by his brothers, Robert (Teri) Simcik, Larry Simcik, nephews Justin (Liz) Simcik and Jerry (Savannah) Simcik, nieces Renae Simcik and Laura Gilchrist, great-nephews Aiden, Marshall, and Jamie and great-niece Jenna.
Johnnie was a supervisor in furniture manufacturing at Kerr-ban for 22 years, but his true passion was farming and agriculture. Throughout the years, together with his father and brothers, he engineered farming tools and implements, worked on tractors, and planted and harvested various crops each year. He was also experienced in animal husbandry and beekeeping. Alongside farming, he worked for Dale Cockerell at Dale’s Essenhaus in Wahlburg for over 51 years as cook, friend, builder and jack of all trades, including running dry cleaners and laundromats. Johnnie was resourceful and could handle pretty much anything asked of him.
Growing up on the San Gabriel river offered Johnnie many opportunities for hunting, fishing, boating and camping – he loved the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed Czech culture, food and music, cooking, eating out and socializing with those he knew in the Granger, Taylor and surrounding communities. He enjoyed traveling and seeing new sights – he was a lifelong learner.
Johnnie was kind, loving, loyal, pure-hearted, and giving. He loved God, his family, friends and country, and was always willing to help and serve others. He usually had a twinkle in his eye and liked to joke – and he never met a stranger. Though Johnnie will be deeply missed, we take great comfort in knowing he will be reunited with his loved ones in Jesus Christ, and we will see him again one day.
A graveside service will be held Februrary second at 2 PM at Machu Cemetery in Granger, TX (near intersection of FM 971 and CR348). Pastor Dean Hamilton will be Officiating.
