Janie Marie Alexander

December 5, 1946 — October 6, 2025

Janie, affectionately known as Ms. A, Mama A, Sis A, passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2025, at the age of 78 at Beacon Hospice in Austin Texas, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born on December 5th, 1946, in Taylor Texas at Dickey hospital, to A.J and Johnnie May Williams, she was the eldest of five children.

Janie was marked by her unwavering kindness, her joyful and religious spirit and her love which extended to all who knew her. She was a proud graduate of O.L Price High School, class of 1965. After which she married her husband Nelson M. Alexander (Hunkie) they moved to San Diego California where she worked at San Diego school districts as a secretary, where they had 3 children.

She was skillful with computers where she taught classes at Mesa Junior College in San Diego CA. Great joy was brought into her life with 8 Grandchildren and one great grandson of her 3 children who all were in various sports.

She loved and enjoyed supporting them in whichever sport they participated in and was very proud of going and attending all their sporting events.

Janie’s Legacy was how talented she was in many fields and where young kids and adults looked up to and respected her because of her kindness, love and her always giving nature. Janie was very creative in many fields, she loved and taught calligraphy, she made suits for her husband to wear to church, she was a counselor to many students and parents, and she served many years in various organizations at Mt. Erie Baptist Church in San Diego CA. As she also did so at Zion Baptist Church in Taylor Texas.

She was first lady of youth track and field in San Diego CA. were there were many youth clubs of track and field. She received many awards for her service in the San Diego community.

Janie’s life was enriched by her long-life friendship with many, where there are numerous memories will forever be remembered, which will continue to bring comfort and laughter to all those she touched and stories to remember.

There will be a wake and viewing on Friday the 17th from 5 – 8 PM where you are invited to visit and meet with the family at Providence Funeral Home.

A service will be held on her behalf at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church the following day starting at 11 AM.
