J.V. “Jack” Dempsey was born on November 19, 1945. He grew up in Waco, Texas and attended University High School before proudly joining the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18, a commitment that reflected the strength and loyalty he carried throughout his life.
Jack spent many years working for General Tire and Rubber in Waco before later moving to Austin to begin a career as a truck driver. Outside of work, Jack enjoyed spending time at the racetrack in Waco, where you could often find him on Friday nights. He also loved shooting pool and western dancing.
More than anything, Jack was known for his loyalty and protective nature. His sister remembers him as the best brother anyone could ask for, always looking out for her throughout their lives. Friends knew that Jack would stand up for them and do whatever he could to help when they needed it.
Jack was also a man of faith. He spoke often about God and prayed every night before going to bed.
One of the proudest moments in his life was adopting his daughter, Mariah, more than 36 years ago.
Jack will be remembered for his strength, his loyalty, and the way he showed up for the people he cared about.
Between the day Jack was born and the day he passed is a dash. That dash represents a life lived with courage, loyalty, faith, and love for the people around him. It is the stories, the laughter, and the memories from that dash that will stay with all who knew him.
