Deeply involved in his community, Gene served on the Granger ISD school board for 20 years and on the board of the Tri-County Point Property Owners Association in Boca Chica, Texas. He attended church with his wife at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria; his daughter, Sheila; his brother-in-law, Johnny Zapalac; great-granddaughters Faith Paau and Thalia Bernal; and great-grandson Adonijah Paau.

He is survived by his sons, Dwayne “Barney” (Sue) Finn and Wade (Cara) Finn; his daughters, Pamela (Phillip) Wagner and Vanessa (Michael) Gorubec; daughter-in-law, Peg Hines and his sister, Irlene Zapalac.
