Danny R. Dunn

October 22, 1943 — January 10, 2026

Danny Dunn passed peacefully on January 10, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

The youngest of six children, Danny was born at home on a farm in Fannin County, Texas on October 22, 1943, to Henry and Iva Dunn. He and his siblings had a special bond, especially with his brothers Tommy Dunn and Henry “Curly” Dunn.

He attended Bells and Ambrose schools where he played football and was a Golden Gloves boxer. After graduating he tried his hand at several jobs before finding a career with Texas Power and Light, known today as Oncor.

Danny started as a lineman and retired as a construction supervisor. During the span of his career he lived in Houston, Gainesville, Farmers Branch, and Taylor. He loved his job - it was part of who he was. After retirement, on stormy nights he would habitually get up and get his boots on just in case he needed to go.

He was a true cowboy and enjoyed the cowboy lifestyle, riding horses and trail riding across south and central Texas. It seemed fitting when he married Julie Nilsson on December 1, 1990, the wedding would be cowboy style after a trail ride at the Twin Sisters Dancehall. They enjoyed many years together continuing to trail ride, traveling in their RV, as well as several cruises.

Danny enjoyed his regular poker night with his buddies, and playing 42 or darts whenever family was around. It was almost impossible to beat him at 42.

He was a man of wisdom who loved God with a quiet faith. He loved his family with a rough cowboy exterior, but a soft heart. A loving husband, dad, and Pawpaw, his family will miss him greatly but know that he is at home with the Lord and he isn’t suffering anymore.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Iva (Weeks) Dunn, sisters Joyce Dunn and Dean McGuirre, brothers Charles “Chalk” Dunn, Henry “Curly” Dunn, and Tommy Dunn, stepdaughter Kim Mata, and infant grandson Allen James Dunn.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Julie Nilsson Dunn, daughters Dana Dunn, Shonda (Dunn) Rosado and husband Rob, stepson Erik Christiansen and wife Tonya, along with twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank their special neighbors and friends who were so kind and helpful during Danny’s illness.
