In Loving Memory of Andrew Meza Cortez Sr .
June 23, 1965 - July 1, 2025
Andrew Meza Cortez Sr. was born on June 23, 1965, in Taylor, Texas, the ninth of twelve children born to Fernando and Leonor Meza Cortez. He was raised in Bartlett, Texas, alongside five brothers and six sisters, in a home filled with love, faith, and family.
Andrew attended school in Bartlett from elementary through high school, where he was an active part of the athletic program. A natural athlete, he played multiple sports, bul football was always his passion. After high school, Andrew moved to Taylor, Texas, where he began a successful 35-year career in auto sales at Taylor Auto Credit. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Lesley. The two married, built a life together, and raised a beautiful family.
Andrew was a true people person. He found joy in his work, where he connected with customers and colleagues alike. But his greatest joy came from his family. A devoted husband and proud father of eight, Andrew was deeply involved in his children's lives. Whether coaching Little League, cheering at cross-country meets, attending band concerts, or simply being present for every milestone, he gave his whole heart to his family.
He adored his grandchildren, nine in all, and shared a special bond with each of them. Fishing with his son, Little Andrew, was his happy place. He enjoyed relaxing at home with his dogs by his side while he watched football, western movies, and crime stories.
Andrew's faith in Jesus Christ was central to his life. He was a committed member of Tree of Life Church in Pflugerville, where he served faithfully as an usher. Alongside Lesley, he volunteered for many years with Shepherd's Heart Ministries and Angel Tree {Prison Fellowship Ministries), giving generously of his time and energy to support others.
Andrew went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 1, 2025. He is missed dearly, but his memory lives on in the hearts of all who loved him. He was a man of great love, faith, and integrity, a one of a kind soul whose presence made life brighter. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernando and Leonor Meza Cortez; his sister, Olga Marshall, and her husband, Lynn; his brothers, Fernando Cortez Jr. and Steven Cortez; his brothers-in-law, Albert Rodriguez., Gary Gadison, and Benny Trevino; and his beloved dog and best buddy, Gatsby.
Andrew is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lesley Lopez Cortez of Taylor; his children: Ashley Cortez, Cecily Ornelas Hernandez (Jonathan), Andrea "Lil Andie" Cortez, Desiree Romero-Cortez (Danny), Leticia Cottongim (Harvey), Elijah Cortez, Andrew Cortez Jr., and Gabriella Cortez. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Jeremiah, Pablo, Lezlee, Harvey, Lucas, Liam, Levi, Leeland, and Annora, as well as his fur babies, Jax, Jewel, and Olivia.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 17th 2025 from 6:00 to Sp.m. at providence funeral home in
