Amelia D. Castro

Amelia D. Castro, age 87, of Taylor, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in Pflugerville, TX on Friday, April 18, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Amelia De La Rosa was born in Thrall, Texas on August 18, 1937 to Domingo and Mary (Rivera) De La Rosa. She was the oldest of five children, one brother and 3 sisters.
Amelia enjoyed cooking, baking, cleaning and being outdoors taking care of her plants. She loved looking through her cookbooks to find a new recipe to try for a family gathering. She retired from the University of Texas in 1999 and loved the Texas Longhorns, baseball was her favorite sport to watch.
Amelia was a devoted mother to her two children, Rose Mary Orozco and Christopher (Gabriela) Castro, loving Nana of three granddaughters, Jackie Orozco (Francis Speasmaker), Lexie Orozco and Alyssa (Emma Spivey) Castro, three grandsons, Thomas Castro, Trey Castro and Adrian Gutierrez (Faye), two great-grandsons, Liam and Niko Gutierrez and great-granddaughter, her pride and joy, Amelia ‘Millie’ Jo Speasmaker.
Amelia is survived by her siblings, Raymond De La Rosa, Carmen Juarez, and Susie (Francisco)Gutierrez and numerous nieces and nephews, who will never forget the care and love she brought to their lives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Helen Carmona (sister), Peter Carmona (nephew), Patricia Ortega (niece), Socorro De La Rosa (sister-in-law) and Johnny Juarez (brother-in-law).
